Karate Kid

Go see Karate Kid! I went to see the movie tonight all by myself because none of my friends wanted to see a "kid's movie." Yes, it is a kid's movie, but I went for the scenes of Beijing and the Great Wall, which I just got back from less than a month ago. However, the movie turned out to be pretty cute--the underdog wins and triumph of the human spirit. The movie had a beautiful aeriel view of the Great Wall and its spectacular vistas. It made me realize how awesome my life is--I don't just get to live vicariously through movies, sometimes I get to experience it in real life. I ran a marathon on that thing and it was so awesome. I went to many of the places shown in the scenes.

Engagements

I have three friends that are engaged. I also got one wedding invitation in the mail yesterday. And, I just found out that another girl I know was in San Diego getting engaged at the same time I was there racing. Happy times for them. Tis the season for love. Meanwhile, as for me, I'm thinking about getting a dog. So maybe it is the season of love for me, too. I heart dogs.

Arizona Road Racers Summer Series Races

Well, the gods of health have not been too kind to me this year. I was sick for 3 weeks with a respiratory infection from Feb-early March, then had the flu when I went to Peru for a marathon (at the doctor's office the day before I flew out) and now I am sick again. I wasn't feeling too well in San Diego and the night I came back I figured out why when I woke up with a sore throat that has turned into a full blown flu. Nyquil has been working its magic, but wears off every morning at 4am.

I did somehow manage the energy to attend a friend's birthday party last evening and had a wonderful time, with my kleenex in tow.

This morning I participated in the summer series #2 that Phoenix has...it is a series of 5Ks which start very early in the morning and go through the summer, which is quite insane if you think about it...the hottest city in the country having running races in the hottest time of the year. But since I had already registered before my illness, I dragged my body out of bed at 5am and ran and it was so hard. I thought I was going to throw up. But the day is still young and I am still hurting from my running, so it could still happen. Shortest race, but felt like the longest. I didn't get a good time. Oh well.
