What happens in Vegas...

Is that you get to run underneath the lights of the strip at night...Rock n Roll Las Vegas is now a nighttime run and all marathoners and half marathoners get to run on the strip with all its glowing glory. The marathon cut off time is 4.5 hours, which is not generous, but it would be fun! Me likie. I want to go to there.

My old salsa dancing friend I ran into at lunch invited me to go salsa dancing and so last night I got my salsa on. Salsa dancing is one of my eccentric hobbies and I am proud to say that like riding a bike, it is a skill not lost.

I am sad to say that Sally Meyerhoff, one of Arizona's most favorite runners and one of the top 10 marathoners in the country passed away. She was hit and killed while on her bike in Maricopa. She was getting into triathlons and training for an Ironman. She was also training for the 2012 Olympics. She won the Arizona Rock N Roll Marathon and she was friends with a lot of my friends. RIP.

Fun Stuff

I can still salsa dance like I never stopped. I forgot how much I love it. I did a 5K race today and raised funds for Haiti. And...I came in first in my age group. Yeah! I got a medal that says First Place Female 30-34.

Weekend

This weekend I went to the Arizona Salsa Festival and saw some old friends. I danced just a little with a couple of guys that I've known for years. Most of the men would come by, look at my height and walk away. Typical experience for me in a salsa dancing club. But I had a good time and saw some performances with fancy costumes.

My training this weekend didn't go very well. I think my body is just tired. My training program isn't too ambitious yet, so I don't know what will happen when it gets much more progressive in the workouts. This will be coming soon. I feel like I rest and eat enough, so perhaps I need to do more. Maybe more protein in the diet.

On Sunday I allowed myself to sleep in, which hasn't happened for a while. I actually got too much sleep and I don't respond well to too much shut eye. I am better on 4 hours than I am 10. So I was tired throughout the day, which really threw me off my game.

I have to remember how that makes me feel so I won't do it again because when the alarm goes off and I have no races to get up for, it's so easy to shut it off. But then I spend the day paying for it.

I am still watching Casino Royale a little too excessively.

Being single

So two single episodes happened to me the past weekend:

1. I went out dancing with two girlfriends from work and their husbands, so I was totally the fifth wheel. They ended up salsa dancing with their significant others and I became what is sadly known as the wallflower. Plus, it was in a Latin club, so I stood out like a sore thumb. I am 6'0 tall and blonde, which is instant freak of nature in these clubs. Men would come by and try to reach the top of my head and state "bastante alta" meaning, way tall.

2. I am training for an upcoming marathon and put in 20 miles in near 100 degrees, so I decided to treat myself to breakfast. I had a gift card leftover from Christmas, so put it to use. However, when I got to the restaurant, it was jam packed, so I asked if I could get some food to go and had a menu in my hand that stated they offered food to go on Saturday and Sunday. Well, the hostess said "No, we don't offer food to go," well, then why do you even have these menus which clearly state that you do? She just said, "well, we just don't do it." So I asked if I could put my name down for a table. She then stated, "We don't serve single people. If you want you can sit at the bar, but that's it." So Crackers and Co. I hope you get bad press and I am telling everyone not to eat there. Single people deserve just as much respect. I have money, too and I get hungry, too.
